IJDC successfully migrated

The International Journal of Digital Curation has successfully completed its migration to a new Web host. All existing links should work as before, so if you notice anything that appears to be broken, please let us know.

IJDC moving Web host

The International Journal of Digital Curation is moving to a new Web host, so the site may become unavailable, or only partially available, for a short period. The transition is scheduled to take place around 16:00 UTC on 10 July 2013. The site should be considered ‘at risk’ after this time, and a further announcement will be be made once the site is up and running again in its new home. The Digital Curation Centre, which publishes the journal, wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Citizen Science briefing paper now available.

The DCC has published a new briefing paper on Citizen Science from the Patients Participate! project. The briefing paper provides an introduction to citizen science, presents benefits, and lists issues to be considered when planning citizen science activities. It is available both as a webpage and as a downloadable pdf.

Digital Curation for Modern Universities

Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN and Associate Director of the Digital Curation Centre, will be speaking at a workshop of the Modern Universities Research Group (MURG) on 28 September 2012 in London. Her talk, ‘Digital Curation for Modern Universities’, will be one of three on the theme of data usage for research; the other speakers on this theme will be Simon Kerridge (Director of Research Services, University of Kent) and Veerle Van Den Eynden (Manager of Research Data Management Support Services, UK Data Archive). The workshop, to be held at Goodenough College, near King’s Cross Station, will also feature talks on Catapult Centres and Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Registration open for IDCC 2013

Registration is now open for the 8th International Digital Curation Conference, to be held on 14–16 January 2013 in Amsterdam. This conference is organised annually by the UK Digital Curation Centre and its partners as a platform for the latest theory and practice in the world of research data management and curation.

The theme for the 2013 conference is ‘Infrastructure, Intelligence, Innovation: Driving the Data Science agenda’. It recognises Data Science as an emerging discipline for making full use of the wealth of available data: finding it, understanding it, adapting and re-analysing it, visualising it and communicating the stories that underlie it, as well as facilitating all these activities.

The programme will feature invited speakers, research and practice papers, posters and demonstrations, as well as a range of workshops on Monday 14 January and Thursday 17 January. More information is available from the UKOLN home page.

Exploiting research data for teaching

Cathy Pink and Jez Cope of the University of Bath’s Research360 Project will be running a workshop at the Association for Learning Technologies’ 19th international conference, ALT-C 2012, on 11 September in Manchester. In the workshop, entitled ‘Exploiting research data for teaching’, Jez and Cathy will invite delegates to explore the potential uses for open research data in teaching and learning in Higher and Further Education contexts. The workshop will address issues such as how to obtain such data, how to stay within the terms of data licences, and how to manage datasets effectively so that they remain associated with vital contextual information.

Data Citation tutorial at iPres 2012
